How to Make $100K+ Per Year as a Healing Professional
In my video on How to Set Up a Profitable Reiki Business, I discussed how to make a part-time living from healing work. In this article, I want to be more ambitious.
I want to show you what's possible if you're willing to go all in.
What follows is a realistic breakdown of how a healing professional can earn over $100K per year. These aren't fantasy numbers. They're based on achievable session rates, realistic class sizes, and actual costs.
Now, I'm not saying this is easy. It's not. And it won't happen overnight. But it is doable, and it gives you a general idea of how you might go about making a full-time living from your healing practice.
Let me show you the maths.
The Reiki Maths
Conduct 8 healing sessions per week for 48 weeks of the year (from home): 48X8X$110 = $42,240
Minus costs for towels and cleaning = $700
Profit = $41,540
Conduct one Reiki 1 course per month with 8 participants:
8X12X$350 = $33,600
Minus costs (manual, room, SEO) = $9,720
Profit = $23,880
Conduct 6 Reiki 2 courses per year with 10 participants:
6X10X$430 = $25,800
Minus costs = $500 X 6 = $3,000
Profit = $22,800
Conduct 3 Master Level Courses per year with 4 participants (at home):
3X4X$1,500 = $18,000
Costs = $40X4X3 = $480
Profit = $17,520
Conduct 2nd Healing Modality (e.g. Pellowah) X2 sessions X 48 weeks:
48X2X$100 = $9,600
Costs = $175
Profit = $9,425
Conduct 6 Other Healing Courses (e.g. Pellowah) per year with 4 Students (from home):
6X4X$430 = $10,320
Costs = 6X4X$40 = $960
Profit = $9,360
Grand total:
Profits = $41,540 + $23,880 + $22,800 + $17,520 + $9,425 + $9,360
= $124,525
Note on finding Students for Courses
As I explain in my video on earning a part-time living off Reiki, you will hope that some of the people who see you each week for healing sessions will go on and do a course. Of these, hopefully at least half will go on and do level 2, and you'll get a couple of others who have done level 1 elsewhere who will also take your Reiki 2. Of these, a small proportion will also go on and do the Master Level.
Minus General Expenses
You will naturally have quite a few other expenses:
Reiki insurance is a few hundred dollars.
Reiki association is about $100.
Google Adwords for courses (as much as you want to spend!).
Autoresponder software: (maybe $400).
Accountant (personally, I pay a few thousand each year, but you could choose to do it mostly yourself).
Internet, domains, phone, etc. (but Internet and phone you would need to pay in any case). $2K.
Self-development courses. (However much you want to pay!)
Trust me, you'll find plenty of ways to spend money, but even so, you get the general idea of the main expenses you will need to pay (and your potential for revenue).
If you haven't already done so, I recommend using the income navigator to figure out how much you'll need to live per year, and how much you might make from your Reiki business. You can just play with the numbers and see what you need to do. As mentioned, the figures in this article are, for most people, ambitious. That's fine, it's good to have something to aim for. And it is doable, even if challenging.
That said, you will need to be totally committed to the goal.
For instance, I've been sending out newsletters with articles in them on most weeks for the last 18 years. I've also been holding monthly practice nights for a similar length of time. I'm always doing something to build my business.
Some years back, I redid my entire website and paid professional designers. I've often spent $20-$30K per year attending courses/training because I want to keep learning. And I do lots and lots of self-work / Reiki practice daily!
But if you love what you do (and I adore working and practising with Reiki), then you will be happy to keep working away at your business and craft.
Also, you need to understand that on any given week or month, results will fluctuate, so you need to be willing to keep focusing on the prize, on what you want, rather than what you are getting in that moment.
You also need to be willing to live with a degree of uncertainty.
But the upside of it all is threefold:
You get to do what you love. You get to help people. You get to earn a living.
Neat!
PS Remember that this is a long-term goal. For a short-term profit model, watch my video 'How to Set Up a Profitable Reiki Business'. Also, I'd say you would need at least 4+ years, and maybe a few more, before these numbers become realistic. At first, you will have 1-3 people in your courses, and 0-2 people per week for healing sessions. This is how it is for pretty well everyone (unless you can leverage a pre-existing business), so don't become dispirited. Enjoy the fact that you are doing what you love, and always be working towards your goal. For me, I spent ten years on the healing business before I got to a place where I was very happy with my income. Be patient!
