5 Practical Steps to Building Your Healing Business
So you want to build a healing business but don't know where to start?
Don't worry. It's simpler than you think.
In this article, I'm going to give you five practical steps to get your healing business off the ground. These aren't abstract ideas. They're concrete actions you can take right now to start building your client base.
Obviously, you'll ultimately do a lot more than just these five steps, but this is a great place to get started. Often, if we try to do too many things at the same time, we get paralysed by overwhelm and don't do anything.
So start with these five things, and you'll be well on your way. Then keep going. You don't need everything to be perfect. You just need to get started.
1. Build Your Online Presence
A. Create Your Website
Your website is your professional "shopfront" – it's where people will learn about you, your services, and why they should book with you.
You have two main options:
Hire someone – Use platforms like Upwork or Fiverr to find a website designer (I typically prefer Upwork as it's often easier to communicate with the freelancer and get changes made. That said, many people do use Fiverr.)
DIY approach – Use a website builder like Wix, Squarespace, or WordPress.com. (If you use platforms like Wix or Squarespace, the disadvantage is that you'll need to keep paying them for hosting – and can't easily leave their platform. The advantage is that it's very easy to build your website and make changes to it. Naturally, you'll need to pay someone for hosting. It's just that if you hire someone to build a custom website for you (say, a freelancer on Upwork), you can host it on affordable options like Cloudways.)
Or use Replit.com. This is my new favorite tool.
Tips for your site:
Include a clear "Book a Session" button on every page.
Add your photo and a personal story about why you became a healer.
Describe your services clearly (Meditation, Reiki, Chi Activation, Pellowah, etc.) with session times and prices.
Make sure you have separate pages for each modality.
Have separate pages for courses and healing sessions/meditation classes.
Have a contact form and your phone/email listed clearly.
If possible, include client testimonials as soon as you have them.
B. Write Your Content with AI Assistance
If writing isn't your strength, use tools like ChatGPT or Claude.ai to generate a first draft of your text.
Give it details about you, your style, and what makes your healing special.
Always edit the text so it feels authentic and in your own voice.
2. Get Found Locally: Directories & Google
A. Local Business Directories
The more places you appear online, the more chances people have to find you. Start by listing yourself in free local directories (search: "free business directory + [your city]").
Some common ones in Australia:
Google Business Profile (see below)
TrueLocal
Yelp
Hotfrog
Local Facebook community groups
You can even ask ChatGPT to create a list of free directories for your area.
B. Create Your Google Business Profile
This is essential for showing up when people search "Reiki near me" or "energy healing near me."
Go to Google Business Profile.
Add your business name, location (or service area if you work from home), contact details, and hours.
Upload good-quality photos of your healing space.
Encourage happy clients to leave reviews — reviews help you rank higher in local search.
3. Start Small: Build Your Local Base
Let friends and family know you're taking clients.
Offer an introductory rate for your first month (and try to get some testimonials from clients during this time).
If you do offer weekly meditation classes, I recommend charging for a set of them, as opposed to charging per individual session. That gets people to commit to the meditation. It will stop them from flaking. It will also mean they get better results.
4. Spread the Word, Both Online & Offline
While I'm not the biggest social media guy, you might nevertheless consider posting regularly on social media (Instagram, Facebook) about your work, your journey, and tips for well-being. (I mostly work through my newsletter, but however you choose to work, you'll need to do something to reach the healing community.)
Network with yoga studios, meditation groups, and holistic health practitioners who might refer clients.
Join online communities where people are already interested in holistic wellness.
5. Do Things Step by Step
Starting a healing business is like growing a garden – you plant seeds, nurture them, and allow time for growth. Each week, aim to do one or two small tasks to move your business forward. That is the key: consistent work over time. My first class started with two students (one of them came for free). I built from there.
Things to get going:
Week 1: Build website.
Week 2: List in three directories.
Week 3: Create Google Business Profile.
Week 4: Share your first social media post.
Final Words
Don't wait until everything is "perfect" – get the basics in place and start. You'll refine as you go, learn from experience, and grow both your confidence and your client base.
You learn a lot more from constant iteration than from trying to get everything perfect the first time (and as a result, taking an age to get started!). Good luck 🙂🙏
